SOCCER            NEWS

While it may no longer be on our front page or emblazoned within the frontal lobes of our minds, much of what happens in our soccer community is rather significant, meaningful and even worth reviewing at times.  YVYSO is surrounded by a great group of families, volunteers, friends, kids and communities and we thank all of those dedicated to our soccer community for what they do and have done.

There are certain individuals who refuse to complain, are benevolent souls and care nothing more than making a difference in kids lives.  Over the last few years, YVYSO's soccer community has had the privilege of having ANDY SIMPSON as our Director of Referees.  He has impacted many on the board, at the soccer fields and in the community and we thank him for his years of dedication and hard work.  You will be missed.

Our new Director of Referees is Colin WIlkie who will be assisted by Jon Yancey.  The Director of Referees number (for referee purposes only) is 909-567-6760; email is

President Cup Champions - January 2013

Yucaipa All-Stars Win the President’s Cup Soccer Tournament

The Yucaipa Coed U14 All-Star soccer team is celebrating one of the most successful seasons in YVYSO history. Under the guidance of Coaches Felipe Abbott and Josh Lesch, this cohesive team of 14 boys used teamwork, skill, and sheer determination to shut out Elsinore Valley to win first place in the President’s Cup held on January 11 and 12 in Apple Valley, California.

This win paved the way for the honor of being the only Yucaipa team to compete in the prestigious Tournament of Champions held on January 25 and 26 in Palm Desert, California. Competition was fierce and after two wins and a tie in the preliminary round,

Yucaipa was again headed to the tournament’s final game. Despite a hard fought battle, Victorville was victorious in the end. Coach Felipe, however, reminded the Yucaipa team of their history making success.

From the beginning, Coach Felipe and Coach Josh had a goal of guiding the team to the Tournament of Champions. That goal was met with the Yucaipa Coed U14 All-Star team finishing a respectable second.

Front row – Josh Fredregill, Trevor Stewart, Tyler Florence, Josh “JW” Weghorst, Yousef Mahfouz, Trevor Hagen, and Cameron Beard. Back row – Coach Felipe Abbott, Nicholas Swantek, Vicente Ruiz, Jason Klatt, Dylan Lesch, Anthony Rosas, Adam Gutierrez, Ethan Abreau and Coach Josh Lesch.

Field Three Receives Lights

Rick McGown Soccer Complex 2013

With help from grants and hard work from members of the board, particularly Graham Holmes, YVYSO is pleased to announce an additional field being lit.

This will further help our growing soccer community in the 2013 fall season when lights are a necessity for practice and games. YVYSO now has three fully lit fields at the Rick McCown Soccer Complex.

Renaming of Jerry Lewis Soccer Complex & Road Repavement

Rick McGown Soccer Complex 2013

On April 18th, 2013, YVYSO along with Spartans FC was pleased to offer a ribbon cutting ceremony in memory of the tragic passing of one of soccer's most dedicated volunteers and advocates of soccer within the Inland Empire, Rick McCown.

Many supporters of the soccer community, including City and County officials, board members from YVYSO and Spartans FC as well as players within the community came out to salute the new name of our soccer complex and view the newly paved road.

We thank the city and county officials for their support of our soccer dreams and aspirations within Yucaipa.  We honor RIck McCown and his family for their dedication to the sport over so many years and share in the sorrow of his untimely departure.  We also thank  Graham Holmes (YVYSO) and Cindy Daniel (Spartans FC) for the continual hard work to make soccer what it is in Yucaipa.
